What the Chinese Medicine Body Clock Can Tell You
Share
One of the ideas many people find interesting in Chinese medicine is the body clock.
In this system, Qi, the body’s functional energy, moves through the organ systems in a 24-hour cycle. Every two to three hours, a different organ system has its peak activity. That does not mean the other organs stop working. It simply means certain functions are more supported at different times of the day.
When Qi flows smoothly through this rhythm, the body tends to feel more settled. Sleep is often better, digestion is steadier, thinking feels clearer, and energy is more balanced.
When that rhythm is disrupted, patterns often start to show up. One of the most common is waking at the same time each night. Other people notice afternoon energy crashes, or digestive changes that seem to happen around the same hour each day.
From a Chinese medicine perspective, these patterns are not random. They can be useful clues about what your body may be trying to communicate.
Over the next few videos, I will walk through each time window so you can better understand what different parts of the day may reflect, and how to better support your body through them.
At Zhong Centre, this is one of the ways we look beyond symptoms alone and begin to understand the body’s deeper rhythms.
