Feeling Emotional During Acupuncture Is More Common Than You Might Think

Something that can occasionally happen during an acupuncture treatment is that people feel a bit emotional. It is actually more common than many people expect.
When the body finally slows down and the nervous system begins to settle, things that have been suppressed or sitting quietly in the background can start to rise to the surface. For some people, that may feel surprising. For others, it can feel like a release they did not realize they needed.
In Chinese medicine, emotions are understood as being closely connected to the body, the organs, and the movement of Qi. So when circulation improves and the body starts letting go of tension, sometimes the emotional side comes with it.
This does not usually mean anything is wrong. Often, it is simply the body releasing something it has been holding onto for a while, sometimes without you even realizing it.
If this happens during treatment, it is completely normal, and it is okay.
At Zhong Centre, we hold space for that too. Sometimes healing is not only physical. Sometimes it is the body softening enough to finally let go.
